Don’t know if we have a team for YADAPP or not we will need to check with Joe.
Officially reached the $5000 goal with commitments from PTA and council. Lyon’s Club is looking for kids to present. Sent letter to Moose Lodge two weeks ago, walk-a-thon still to come and it sounds like lots of kids are interested. The turn out for the concert wasn’t as good as they hopes (40 or so). Area car wash said they would donate money too. No word from Keith on the big grant request.
6th and 7th graders are stepping up to take leadership roles and will be part of the presentation to staff.
Talked about this again. With all the fundraising they are doing for Rachel’s Challenge it doesn’t seem that they will be able to do much for this.
Talked about the new K2 drug that is out. The officers didn’t seem to think it was much of a deal here. Talked about he meth lab bust in town as well.
Talked about possibly doing prevention club field trips next year to get the kids out in the community.

Introductions
Discussed the events of this past weekend and how successful they were.
Donations – discussed checks should be made to the Prevention Council of Roanoke County.
A member of the town council indicated that someone should write a letter to the board to request funds for Rachel’s Challenge and they felt there might be support for it.
Joy will be responsible for sending thank you notes to everyone that donates money. She is also calling all churches to try to get them to the April 22nd 8AM meeting and April 27th 5:30 PM meeting. Discussed other businesses and organizations to invite as well. Looking to McDonalds for AM meeting and Kroeger for PM meeting donations. April 13th is the 8:00AM chamber presentation. May 26th the girls will present to the facility at 3:30. Discussed the need to get other youth involved in the presentations as well.
They remade the flyers with bullet points and are thinking about adding a donation slip to the bottom of it. Got the first $100 donation from Dr. Whitaker. Discussed making a scrapbook of the process. Need to start a chain link for donations. Possible float in the dogwood festival.
Need to find out what Paul H from the rec’s last name is. Also, they would like to know if we (PC) have any money in the budget to purchase paper and other misc items?
Discussed Sticker shock happening on April 24th. This is the same day as the dogwood festival but they are talking about doing the Vinton store in the early AM. We discussed how to register for this as well.
We discussed state YADAPP. Advised that this year there will be a $25 non-refundable deposit for the event that will be due by June 1st (have asked for it by next meeting).
May 22nd, spring carnival, talked about doing fund raising there.
April 20th Town Hall, do we want the girls to speak there?

Introductions
Both groups are working on Red Ribbon Week next week. The middle school will have theme days like Career day, dreams are achieved day (with clouds for people to write their dreams on and wear you pjs). The HS will have theme days like Sock it to Drugs (wear crazy socks) and stomp out drugs (wear boots to school) and at the football game to band will be wearing red ribbons and they will have a chain of 110 kids holding up signs that spell out the message standing together for a drug free community.
The magnets didn’t stick around for long and there was no feedback other then students did see them on the sides of buses that afternoon.
Justin shared his STAN Plan. Joe has the original and will make copies. When we get back together next month we will discuss how we would like to proceed with the plan. Also discussed regional YADAPP March 27th being moved to North Side HS and having Aaron Davis or Steve Fitzhugh as speakers at the conference. This will be the same day and place as Bandfest as well.
We are moving forward bringing this program to the Valley. The tentative date is Sept 12th 2010. We need to raise $21,000 to make this happen. WB to head up the charge for this project. Talked about using resources in the community to help support these types of plans.
WB would like to do sticker shock a couple of times in the next few months. Thanksgiving time, Christmastime and New Years were a few of the dates discussed. They will work on this after red ribbon week is finished. Sarah also came up with the idea of approaching ABC to see if they would put these stickers on all the bags in all the stores.
YOVASO and YADAPP have floats in this parade every year and will do so again.
SAC and Community Coalition Umbrella
Discussed the possibility of using the community action team (coalition) meeting as a way to bring the SAC’s idea of each school having an umbrella of prevention over it. The idea is to try to get at least 1 representative from each group (SAC, SCA, YOVASO, YADAPP, etc) to come to the meetings and share what they are doing and bring back to their groups what is happening in their community’s as well as projects that the CAT team has decided to work on together.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be November 17th at 8:30AM in the conference room at the middle school. These meeting will shift each month between the HS and MS.
