The
holidays are quickly approaching and between preparing large meals,
coordinating with family members and multiple shopping trips, we can often
forget that this time of year provides a great opportunity to spend time
with your kids — and even get to know them a little better.
This
year when you sit down to eat your big meal on Thanksgiving, ask your
family to go around the table and say one thing that they are thankful for.
It's always interesting to hear what means the most to your kids and also
let them in on what's important to you. As a mom, I'm thankful for what I
have — rather than what I don't: worrying about my kids means that I have
kids to worry about, dirty dishes means there is plenty to eat, and loads
of laundry means plenty to wear. I think it's essential that our kids
recognize the little things in life — and how important it is to
communicate our hopes, dreams and even fears with each other.

Connect
With Your College Kid Over the Holidays
Your
baby is all grown up! She might be old enough to choose her own classes and
decorate her dorm room, but there are still a lot of decisions that she
needs your help to make. Take advantage of the holiday break to spend some
time talking.

Drug Education Needs to Come From Home
Depending
on your child's school to be the primary source for drug prevention
education may not be as effective as you once thought. According to this report,
teachers don't have the time, training or resources to effectively provide
the curriculum.
