ParentingTeensOnline The Monthly Buzz ...
November

A lot has been going on in the world of parents and teens this month, and we want to be sure to keep you in the loop. Here's some interesting information you shouldn't miss.

No time to read? We now have select articles available as audio podcasts. Try listening to a podcast of MySpace.com, Blogging Moms or Family Dinners Cook Up Responsible Teens.

DID YOU KNOW...

Studies show that one in four teen girls will be in an abusive relationship. Through violent images in rap music, TV, and ads, girls get the message that it’s cool to be dominated or humiliated. Parents need to convey the message (to their sons as well as daughters) that women should be strong, smart and in control. Visit www.loveisrespect.org for ideas.

DID YOU KNOW...

Manga (Japanese comics) is a hot trend in teen reading. Shojo (girls) Manga, focuses on romance and relationships and Shonen (boys) Manga involves nonstop action. There are also mysteries, horror, drama, and historical series. Manga is rated (though inconsistently), T for teen, Teen 13 and up, and M for mature—depending on the level of sex or violence.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to read your November issue for information on:

·                                 The real truth about MySpace and Facebook and how to keep your teen safe online

·                                 Passing down lessons learned--reconciling your own past with your teen’s present

·                                 Great family vacations that even your teens will enjoy

Also, take our poll on “Who pays your teen’s cell phone/text bills?” and compare your answers with other parents.

Look for the upcoming December issue! Some of the articles include: What to do if your teen is “learning different” and having problems in school, the specifics of raising teen boys, and the media craze of YouTube.

And please don’t forget to spread the word about ParentingTeensOnline and tell five friends about this great resource.
